Where did you live when you first came to Cali?
Los Angeles
What made you live in LA?
From what he heard, employment was high in LA because of the new industry being developed as well as great talk about the     great weather
When did you get your first car when you moved out here? What kind of car was it?
I already had my car when I moved out here and it was a 1938 ford. I came here by train
Where were the different places in California you lived?
Primarily in LA
How did you get your first house and where was it located?
My first house was in LA and I got my house by WORKING HARD and earning money
Did you and granny move out here together? If so, when? If not, when and why?
I came first, I came to check it out first to see whether I liked it or not to see if it was a stable environment for my wife and I and my future family
What were the different kinds of cars you drove between 1950- 1999?
1st (the car I came here with. 1938 ford)
2nd (black Honda)
3rd (light brown volts wagon)
4th (maroon Nissan)
5th(my current car, the Buick)
How did you make ends meet? What were the different jobs you had?
1st(unloading ships, my hardest working job)
2nd(synthetic rubber plant as an oiler and mechanical helper)
3rd&last(the post office downtown where I worked until my retirement)
What struggles did you have to overcome between the 1950’s- 1980’s?
I didn’t really have to overcome any struggles because I had been in the military so I was used to being away from home. It was harder for granny because she had never been out of Louisiana
Who were the different people you lived with before you got a place of your own? What type of house was it i.e. house, apartment, condo(etc.)?
Walter Le Du (cousin) whom lived in LA and granny and I had our first house in LA on Colden St.
Who were your first friends that you made when moving to Cali or did you already have people here that you knew?
Cousins, the Barra family that my brother married into that moved out here before me, and the Fabre’s, another family that came here during the war that we knew, and I met some co-workers
What was your favorite part of Cali? Least?
Temperature was great! Never too hot or too cold. I didn’t like that a lot of people from all over came and the cities became overcrowded and as a result, violence was beginning to become a problem and I didn’t want to raise my kids in that environment so I moved.
How did you find your first job?
Through new friends I met. When you’re looking for a job, people would give you advice
Which car was your favorite?
My black 1938 ford because that was the beginning point, it’s what got me here.
What was your favorite or most enjoyable job?
The post office because I got a chance to work with different people from all different walks of life
What inspired you to want to work there?
Good salary and it provided good benefits which is why I am sitting here relaxing now watching the latest news on Tiger(laughs)
When did granny come out here?
After I had been here for 3 months to test the waters. We both got here by train which took about 2 days
